Sheraan De Souza
Sheraan is an experienced Occupational Therapist who has a passion for working with clients who experience psychosocial and mental health challenges. Sheraan has worked for 25 years in a variety of mental health settings including acute inpatient, rehabilitation, forensic and community settings.
Sheraan has extensive experience working with adults, adolescent, children and their families who experience mental health difficulties. Sheraan worked as a Senior Occupational Therapist in an adult inpatient mental health unit for 10 years, where she was responsible for providing occupational therapy services to adults experiencing acute mental health issues, as well as developing and evaluating occupational therapy service provision and managing the occupational therapy team. Sheraan has more recently worked with children, adolescents and their families experiencing severe mental health issues in a community health setting.
Sheraan utilises a strengths based, recovery framework to work alongside her clients and their families/ significant persons to support them in identifying their recovery goals and assist them to achieve these goals, in order to live their life worth living.
Sheraan’s skills lie in the area of connecting with clients at their level and utilising evidence based interventions to motivate and support them to live to their optimum capacity.
More recently, Sheraan has begun working in the private sector, providing OT services to NDIS participants with a psychosocial disability (since 2020). She is very happy to be working with the Verve OT team where she is able to pair her own clinical expertise and experience with a highly developed, skilled and experienced team of occupational therapists.
Sheraan is able to assist NDIS participants and their families/ significant persons with identifying appropriate levels of support (Functional Capacity Assessments) and accommodation needs (SIL/ SDA), as well as building capacity with respect to functional skill development. Sheraan is experienced in the provision of sensory assessments and in supporting clients in identifying their sensory profile for use in emotion regulation and to support them to reach their optimum function.
Sheraan is a busy mum to her two young children (a girl and a boy) and in her spare time enjoys anything where she can get her creative flare on, including jewellery making and cake decorating. Sheraan tries really hard to exercise when she can.
